The Georgia Public Service Commission's 2022 notice names Atlanta plus Alpharetta, Duluth, Dunwoody, East Point, Forest Park, Gainesville, Griffin, Lawrenceville, Mableton, Marietta, Peachtree City, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Smyrna and Tucker. Decatur and Kennesaw draw on the same numbers.

One institution stands out: Kennesaw State University is the largest user of the 470 code. The school's newer lines use the 470-578 prefix, and on a phone keypad 578 spells KSU.

The last 404 prefix went to a provider in October 2013, and the prefixes in 678 and 770 were fully allocated too, leaving 470 as the code with central office codes still open. When NANPA projected that the region would run short of prefixes by the second quarter of 2023, the Commission approved another overlay in October 2020, and 943 began service on March 15, 2022.

Is 470 a Country Code? What That Search Really Means

No. 470 is an area code in the United States, and the country code for US numbers is +1. A metro Atlanta number written in international format therefore looks like +1 470-555-0142: the country code, the three-digit area code, then the seven-digit local number.
